Who we are

The Lighthouse Outreach Center was birthed from a small garage in Awanei located in Waipahu of August 1995. With only four families including Rev. Joe Hunkin with First Lady Vai Hunkin and children (son)Headrick, (daughter)Hannah; we were bound to see what God was about to do in this small garage. Service was a usual routine every Sunday. We were trying to make the garage as comfortable as possible for service so that we can invite visitors, friends and all our loved ones.In October of 1996, a little over a year, we moved to Sand Island Access Road. We held Sunday services in a barracks like building which was controlled by the U.S. Coast Guard. The only problem we had was that only one service could be conducted on Sundays which starts at 1:00pm. Faith was being activated within the church at this time. With a little over twenty families, we were beginning to see God work a miracle in our behalf in expanding the lighthouse center.It wasn't to long until God took us to where we are now at leokane street in Waipahu at around June 1997 where violence was rated #3 in all of Oahu. We didn't know that this was where God wanted us to be in the future. Little that we know, we were paying $6,000 rent monthly to use the facility. We started exercising faith like never before. We sent out letters to top CEO's and Entertainers all over the world hoping to get some financial help from them. We haven't received anything from them. The rent was raised to $7,000 January 2000 and continued to increase to $8,500 a month in the summer 2002. God is good all the time.Rev. Joe Hunkin had a vision which is our mission statement. The vision was on fire in no time. Outreaches were being held left and right (people from different backgrounds came to know Jesus), the youth had so much invitations from all over the island, the Worship Team completed their 1st Worship CD, Bless-A-Block was born (total of 2,345 people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior), the congregation increased to 60 families, attendance on Sundays was between 500 - 800 people whom were mostly visitors alone, to God be the glory!The Pastor summoned everyone in the congregation to come up with a motto. "ALL FOR THE LORD" came to life and it's being used from Waipahu, Hawaii to the uttermost part of the world. We believe that from the beginning of the Lighthouse Outreach Center till now, it was "ALL FOR THE LORD".The Lighthouse Outreach Center Ministries purchased the 1.2 acre land for $1.7 million for the glory of God on June 2004.We have also extended to our PAC's (Parent Affiliated Churches) in Hilo, Hawaii with Hilo Lighthouse Outreach Center pastors, Mr. and Mrs. Alo Valoaga; including Sacramento, California pastors, Mr. and Mrs. Ieriko Samifua in Kauai, Hawaii pastors, Mr. and Mrs. Sile Asotasi also our newest PAC in Seattle, Washington pastors, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Vaomu installed on 2 October 2011. We also have our very own extension in Vailoa, American Samoa installed on 13 February 2011 with pastors, Mr. and Mrs. Taleni Sula.To learn more about the Center, come and visit us.
